I used to be an octopus

Amazing? Incredible? Wicked awesome? We're not sure how to describe this dragon crafted by Michigan welder and artist Lou Rodriquez but it sure is something.

It's even more impressive when you consider this 20 foot long, nearly 9 foot tall dragon is made completely out of steel.

Lou says he used a Powermax65 with a hand torch to shape the teeth, and cut out the top fins and eyebrows (which are actually old welding wire spools.) He also used the Powermax to cut out round tubes and other pieces he needed.

A Powermax CNC set-up was used to cut out all the scales. If you want to check out this dragon in person, you can (provided you can make it to Michigan in the next couple of weeks.)

It is now on display at ArtPrize, an art competition in Grand Rapids. The fun starts today and ends October 11. Learn more about Lou, his dragon, and ArtPrize.
