Hypertherm’s new HyPrecision Waterjet is a complete line of waterjet products that include pumps ranging from 15 to 150 horsepower, precision cutting heads, and abrasive delivery equipment. The addition of waterjet to the Hypertherm family started with our acquisition of AccuStream, a company whose experience with waterjet dates back to the mid-1980’s.

The systems all feature Advanced Intensifier Technology. Though it may sound like a fancy marketing name, Advanced Intensifier Technology actually helps operators of these systems in three ways. It cuts down on maintenance intervals, reduces maintenance time and maximizes the overall performance of your system. We estimate the total cost of ownership for a HyPrecision system is up to 20 percent less than a competitive system.

The inventor of the HyPrecision waterjet system, a man named Eric Chalmers, ran his own job shop for many years. So he saw firsthand what could and did go wrong with the systems he was using. That, experience, combined with more than a decade of designing waterjet equipment, drove him to develop replacement parts for a variety of systems. The knowledge gained selling those parts provided an opportunity to learn where and why failures occurred, which in turn led him to create his own waterjet system.

Take the plunger for example. Eric redesigned it for maximum life with minimum pressure fluctuation. He placed the hydraulic rod seals and plunger bearings outside the hydraulic end cap for easier access and servicing, then added an advanced piston design to minimize seal wear and greatly extend part life. And as most anyone who runs a waterjet can tell you, one of the biggest issues is system downtime. Working on a system—even if you’re only conducting regular, routine maintenance, means your system isn’t making you money.

Another benefit: HyPrecision Waterjet systems are part of Hypertherm’s Built for Business Integrated Cutting Solutions family. This means Hypertherm’s ProNest nesting software, computer numeric controller (CNC), THC, and HyPrecision Waterjet all work together to automatically apply the right cutting parameters and adjust things like the feed rate, abrasive flow rate, pump pressure and more.
