Weld repair using plasma gouging
Posted by
Where cracking occurs in or adjacent to welded joints, a satisfactory repair can be made by welding. It is important that enough of the cracked material is gouged or machined away to allow a full penetration repair weld, with no traces of crack left and no new significant defects introduced.
Example of Powermax gouging for weld repair:
Customer application |
End user needs to periodically repair cracks of special materials such as high Cr-Ni steels and Pure Copper. |
Existing method and challenges |
Grinding machines and carbon arc. Grinding is slow and carbon arc contaminates the base metal. |
Powermax® solution |
HyAccess™ gouging consumables which enable a very delicate gouging process without any carbide formation on the base metal. |
Powermax results |
Customer was able to complete the repair faster and with high precision without contamination. |
