Hypertherm unveils new waterjet abrasive management system, next generation CNCs and more at FABTECH 2015
Hypertherm, a manufacturer of plasma, laser, and waterjet cutting systems, is unveiling several new products at FABTECH 2015. This includes a waterjet abrasive management system for significantly lower waterjet operating costs, as well as a new generation of CNCs, and two new air plasma options. In addition, Hypertherm will showcase Robotmaster® offline robotic programming software.
Hypertherm’s abrasive management system is comprised of two products—the PowerDredge™ abrasive removal unit available now and its EcoSift™ abrasive recycling unit available next year. The PowerDredge increases waterjet productivity and profitability by automating costly abrasive clean-outs. This allows companies to reduce both labor costs and system downtime. The EcoSift helps companies recycle their used abrasive. Testing and microscopic analysis shows up to 60 percent of abrasive sitting at the bottom of a waterjet table actually meets the specifications for brand new abrasive and can be reused without impacting cut quality. As up to 60 percent of waterjet operating costs are attributed to the purchase of new abrasive, this can lead to a significant cost savings for companies.
Hypertherm is also unveiling a new generation of computer numeric controls. Named the EDGE® Connect, this family of CNCs combines advanced software technology with modern hardware in a compact package. Enhancements include the newest version of Hypertherm’s Phoenix™ software with the company’s popular CutPro Wizard™ for fast and easy job set up; and for the first time ever, an introductory version of ProNest® CNC nesting software. This added software will make it possible for table operators to create a part program directly from the CNC. For example, an operator could accommodate an urgent job using an available part file or quickly select a standard shape when the offline ProNest software programmer is not available. Hardware upgrades include a large 19 inch touchscreen on Hypertherm’s full featured unit, a quad core processor, solid state disk drive, and EtherCat® connectivity. On average, EDGE Connect CNCs are more than 65 percent lighter and thinner, and use 70 percent less electricity than Hypertherm’s EDGE Pro line of CNCs. Customers can choose from among three EDGE Connect offerings including a mini CNC and a full featured CNC beginning in early 2016.
The EDGE Connect CNCs will showcase Hypertherm’s new SureCut™ technology. SureCut is brought to you via various delivery mechanisms that include Hypertherm systems, CNCs, and CAM software. The technology simplifies both 2D and 3D cutting through the automatic inclusion of optimized process parameters in support of a wide range of applications. Additionally, Hypertherm plans to demonstrate its
newly acquired Robotmaster off-line robotic programming software on a working robot.
The final two products making their FABTECH debut are designed to support cutting and gouging in remote locations. Hypertherm’s Freedom 38 PPA™ is a completely autonomous, all-in-one unit that combines a powerful 125 amp plasma system with a generator and air compressor for cutting in areas without access to electricity. The Powermax30® AIR features a 30 amp plasma system and air compressor in one compact unit for ultimate portability.
