Living and working in the Upper Valley

Nestled among rolling foothills with numerous lakes and rivers, the Upper Valley includes picturesque communities in both New Hampshire and Vermont. Quaint and historic villages that dot the area provide a friendly, safe hometown environment where people support and care about each other. Lovely neighborhoods offer a variety of housing options, from historic early century homes to modern townhouses.

The great outdoors

An invigorating, four-season climate provides ideal conditions for a wealth of recreational opportunities throughout the Upper Valley. A favorite hikers' route, the Appalachian Trail, crosses the region and the 60-mile Northern Rail Trail is a popular path for backpackers, bikers, and snowmobilers. The 36-mile Cross Rivendell Trail showcases the beauty of the area and the Storrs Pond Ring Trail is another popular trek. Beautiful lakes and rivers include Mascoma Lake in New Hampshire and Fairlee and Morey Lakes in Vermont, as well as the scenic Connecticut River – all great venues for kayaking, canoeing and boating. The region is also home to a variety of country clubs and golf courses. During winter months, residents and visitors can enjoy numerous alpine ski resorts in both New Hampshire and Vermont.

Arts and entertainment

The Upper Valley is proud of its thriving arts and culture community, including the Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College, the Cornish Colony Museum, the Shaker Museum and exhibition and programs sponsored by the Alliance for Visual Arts. The 800-seat Lebanon Opera House is home to a wide range of theater, music, dance and educational programs. Other entertainment facilities include the Hopkins Center for the Performing Arts on the Dartmouth College Campus, the 400-seat Town Hall Theatre in Woodstock, Vermont, and Northern Stage in White River Junction, Vermont.
