A podcast: Lessons from becoming a Recovery Friendly Workplace

New Hampshire, where Hypertherm is headquartered in the United States, is working hard to combat substance abuse in the state. It’s a complex issue, but Hypertherm is doing our part as a Recovery Friendly Workplace. A program, now in its second year, takes a holistic approach to substance use disorders. It also meant our attitudes about work and recovery needed to change. A first step was eliminating the stigma, so employees could feel free to ask for help at work. 

Matt McKenney, Hypertherm’s Workforce Development Leader, has been at the center of this initiative. In The ESOP Mini-Cast 55, McKenney shared organizational learnings, but also recognized that employers can’t go it alone. This is an incredibly difficult subject and there are no simple answers, but there's also hope.
