Hypertherm receives Business Innovator of the Year from Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce

Hypertherm, a U.S. based manufacturer of industrial cutting systems and software, is the recipient of a Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Award, accepting the Business Innovator of the Year Award at an event early this month. Chamber members recognized Hypertherm for its work on substance use disorders (SUD), calling the company a powerful leader who has used its position as one of the region’s largest employers to support people struggling with addiction.
The company has a dedicated “Substance Use Disorders Task Force” to develop SUD resources and approaches within and outside the company, participates in New Hampshire Governor John Sununu’s new Recovery Friendly Workplace Initiative, and through its HOPE Foundation, provides grants to expand and sustain many recovery support programs like Headrest, the Second Wind Foundation and prevention programs like Second Growth’s Coaching for Captains.
“We are honored to receive recognition for our work to reduce the stigma of SUD and support people in recovery,” said Jenny Levy, Hypertherm’s vice-president of people, community, and environment. “Sadly this medical disorder impacts us all. Hypertherm has lost one Associate to an overdose and has Associates who have lost family members as well as friends, and although we face enormous challenges in treating this epidemic, we believe little by little our company, our Associates, our town, and our region can make a difference.”
The Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce presents its Leadership Awards to individuals and businesses that demonstrate a commitment to improving the quality of life in the Upper Valley Region of New Hampshire and Vermont. Award recipients are nominated and voted on by approximately three hundred chamber members. In addition to Hypertherm, other recipients of this year’s awards are Sara Kobylenski, former Executive Director of the Upper Valley Haven, who was honored with the Chamber Leadership Awardfor exemplary contributions through civic outreach; Northern Stage, as Small Business Innovator of the Year; and Carol Dunne, Artistic Director of Northern Stage, who was named Innovator of the Year.
