Setting and maintaining the flame chemistry is skill that takes time and practice for oxyfuel users to master. With Hypertherm's Powermax line, which runs on compressed air, there are no gases to mix or regulate.
If you are using mechanized plasma with a CNC and an automated gas console, all the parameters are set for the operator. There's no need to manually adjust gases.
Additionally, the Powermax handheld plasma systems are designed for
drag-cutting, which means that the
operator can drag the torch along the metal. There's no need to hold any
standoff, a critical component for achieving
good oxyfuel cuts. And templates and patterns, especially those with curves, are easier to follow too.
The lack of gases to regulate, drag-cutting capability, and an easy-to-use set of controls makes plasma easier to learn as well.
