The Mariner is the most advanced CNC offering from Automation. In addition to the core software capability of all Hypertherm CNCs, the Mariner offers 12 axis control with up to 400 inputs and 600 outputs with a built-in Operators console. Targeting advanced plasma applications and laser tables, the Mariner delivers performance for cutting tables that is not found in other CNCs.
Mariner offers motion control operation of up to twelve axes of motion through use of an expandable SERCOS™ fiber optic ring. Add on modules for standard I/O and analog I/O are supported through the SERCOS ring for increased flexibility.

The acronym “SERCOS” refers to Serial Realtime Communications System servo drive interface. This approach to communicating with the drive amplifiers is carried out over a fiber optic ring and replaces the traditional ± 10VDC analog output motion control card with a fiber optic driver card. In addition to controlling up to 12 servo axes, the system may also be used to communicate digital and analog I /O information to the controller. By supporting remote I /O and servo modules the system offers a highly flexible and cost effective solution to tailoring the control system to the machine requirements.
