Hypertherm and Neighborhood Meeting - February 2008

Hypertherm held a meeting with its neighbors in February 2008

February 2008

Thank you to the nearly 40 neighbors who attended Hypertherm’s first
neighborhood meeting. We enjoyed meeting new neighbors and reconnecting
with old ones and sincerely appreciate all of the thoughtful comments received.
Also, thank you to the Upper Valley Land Trust for offering their guidance with this project. Here’s a brief recap of what we heard from you:

Noise & Light You are concerned about... construction noise such as jack hammering and blasting; someone
mentioned they can hear Gile Tract noise from miles away.
constant noise and light from around the clock operations. increased noise in general and with the noise created from heating and air conditioning units on our rooftops. light pollution and want as little artificial light as possible.
Environment You would like us to... do all we can the minimize any disturbance to the beautiful, natural land. examine what impact this project will have on the natural habitat and wildlife
that live here.
consider the viewshed and what impact this project will have on views around Hanover. create a tight footprint even if it means considering a multi-story building.
Traffic You believe that... roads in this area are saturated and can not handle any more growth. the roads are not designed for industrial traffic. a traffic inventory such as data on trips and solutions for managing traffic
is needed.
Other You want us to... explore the opportunity to create a model of successful collaboration. consider the option of remote production. recognize this is your home too. remember that firm constraints often result in innovative solutions.

We are in the process of reviewing all of the input given to us and are working
to get answers to the many great questions you asked. It is our hope to get back
to you soon with answers to those questions. Also, as a result of your feedback,
we are planning to engage experts who can give an accurate assessment of the impact this project will have on the neighborhood.

We are fortunate to have such a beautiful natural environment and these experts
will look closely at how to mitigate any environmental impact and minimize this project’s footprint on the natural land. Additionally, they will look at the effect this project might have on the viewshed and help identify innovative technologies to minimize both noise and light.

Finally, we heard many comments about traffic, along with related issues
such as parking, commuting and mass transportation. We know we have a
lot of work to do in this area and are committed to doing it.

As mentioned at the meeting, we will regularly post updates to this Web
site and urge you to check back often. Caring for the environment and
our community is one of Hypertherm’s core values. As such, we want you
to know we are listening and that we will give serious consideration to
your thoughts. We know this is your neighborhood too.
